A Trusted Orthodontist in Mobile

Dr. Kevin Pickett discovered his passion for orthodontics at a young age, inspired by his uncle’s tales from the dental field. This early influence led him to pursue his dream at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where he earned both his Doctor of Dental Medicine and, later, a Master’s degree and Certificate in Orthodontics.

Dr. Pickett earned his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1993. He graduated with honors from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1997. Continuing his education, Dr. Pickett completed a Master of Science and a Certificate in Orthodontics in 2000.

During his dental training, Dr. Pickett was president of multiple student organizations, including the student body, Psi Omega fraternity, and the Dental Research Group. His academic excellence earned him the prestigious Kramer Award of Excellence, the Schneyer Award for scholastic achievement, and induction into the OKU Dental Honor Society. He was also recognized with the American Association of Orthodontists Award and the Alabama Dental Association Student Leadership Award, in addition to receiving the Dean’s Medal for outstanding scholarship and leadership.

Dr. Pickett’s research contributions have been featured in the Journal of Dental Research and The Angle Orthodontist. He holds memberships with several professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, Alabama Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, and Alabama Dental Association. From 2009-2010, Dr. Pickett served as president of the Alabama Orthodontic Alumni Foundation.

Braces in Mobile

Braces in Mobile are an excellent choice for correcting complex tooth issues. Since they can sometimes work faster at aligning teeth and closing gaps than other treatments might, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced.

Braces don’t require some of the more complex technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, meaning Mobile braces are a cost-effective orthodontic option.

Traditional metal braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. They’re made out of metal or ceramic brackets that are affixed to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics.

These brackets, wires, and bands work together to apply the gentle pressure that will gradually move the teeth into the positions we want them to be in as long as you have regular adjustments with Dr. Pickett.

Invisalign in Mobile

Invisalign is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists in Mobile and is the top alternative to traditional braces. Instead of brackets and bands, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth.

Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and customized to fit snugly over your teeth. To keep your teeth moving in the direction you want them to, you’ll need to switch your invisible trays out for the next one in the series every one to two weeks as directed by Dr. Pickett.

The Invisalign system can only work if the recommended guidelines are followed exactly! Aligners should be worn 20 – 22 hours per day throughout treatment. If patients neglect to wear the aligners as directed, it can impede the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.

Invisalign is at its most efficient when correcting many of the most common orthodontic issues. For some complex cases, Invisalign may not be a good option. A free consultation with Dr. Pickett at Pickett Orthodontics in Mobile will allow us to determine your eligibility for Invisalign.
